Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 4, 2026

myFSpal ("we", "us") is an independent, personal project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or speaking for the U.S. Department of State or the U.S. Government, and it is not an official source of information. This policy explains what information the website at www.myfspal.com and its tools collect, how it is used, and the choices you have. You can reach us any time at myforeignservicepal@gmail.com.

The short version

  • You do not need an account, and we do not ask for your name or address to use the site or tools.
  • Most tools run in your browser. The planners and the salary calculator keep what you enter on your own device.
  • myStuff is the exception: the inventory you create is saved on our database under a share code (see below).
  • We use Google Analytics to count visits and measure traffic. It uses cookies or similar identifiers.
  • We do not sell your personal information.

Information you give us

Email. If you write to us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to tell us. We use it only to reply and to improve the site, and we keep it for as long as it is useful or until you ask us to delete it.

myStuff PCS Organizer. When you save an inventory, the items and notes you type are stored in a database run for us by Supabase. There are no accounts. Instead, each inventory gets a randomly generated share code, and anyone who has the code can open and edit that inventory. Treat the code like a password. Please do not enter passport, Social Security, bank or account numbers, or other sensitive details. Inventories stay until they are deleted; write to us with your share code and we will delete it.

Information collected automatically

  • Hosting and security logs. Our site is delivered through Cloudflare, which processes technical data such as your IP address, browser type, device, the pages requested and the time, to deliver pages, block abuse and keep the service running.
  • Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages and tools are used. It records page views, approximate location, device and browser details, and how you arrived, using cookies or similar identifiers. Google states that Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses.
  • Advertising. Some tool pages display ads served by Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners may use cookies and similar technologies to show and measure ads, including ads based on your earlier visits to this and other sites. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services, and manage ad personalization in your Google ad settings.

Information stored on your own device

The PCS Planner, the New Parent Planner and the Salary Calculator save your entries, your compared posts and your light or dark theme in your browser's local storage so they are still there next time. This stays on your device and is not sent to us. Clearing your browser's site data removes it.

Other services your browser contacts

To display pages and run the tools, your browser requests files or data from other companies, and they receive your IP address and browser details when it does:

  • Google (fonts, analytics, advertising);
  • Supabase, which hosts the reference data our tools read (allowance rates, post lists, country facts, travel advisories) and the myStuff inventories;
  • content delivery networks that supply code libraries to some tool pages (jsDelivr, cdnjs, unpkg, Tailwind CSS CDN and d3js.org);
  • restcountries.com and exchangerate-api.com, which the Post Visualizer uses for country details and currency rates;
  • Netlify, which hosts a demo embedded in one blog post and older addresses of some tools that now redirect here.

These companies have their own privacy policies, which we do not control.

Links to other sites and affiliate links

Our posts link to other websites and to products. Some of those links may be affiliate links, meaning we may earn a small commission if you buy through them, at no extra cost to you. When you click one you leave our site, and the other site's own privacy practices apply, including any cookies it sets.

How we use information

  • to run, secure and fix the website and tools;
  • to understand what is useful and improve it;
  • to show advertising that helps pay for the site;
  • to answer your emails and, if you ask, delete your data.

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with the service providers named above, when the law requires it, or to protect the site and its users. We do not collect information on behalf of the U.S. Department of State or any other government agency.

Your choices

  • Block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site still works, though ads may be less relevant and local-storage features will not remember your entries.
  • Opt out of Google Analytics with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
  • Turn off ad personalization at adssettings.google.com.
  • Ask us to access, correct or delete information we hold about you (for example a myStuff inventory or your emails to us) by writing to the address above. Depending on where you live, such as California, Virginia or the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, you may have legal rights to do so, and we will respond within the time the law requires.

Retention

Analytics and advertising data are kept by Google under the retention settings of our account. Hosting logs are kept by Cloudflare for a short period. myStuff inventories are kept until deleted. Emails are kept as long as they are useful.

Security

We rely on the security of our providers and use encrypted (HTTPS) connections. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, and because myStuff share codes work like passwords, anyone who knows a code can see that inventory.

Children

The site is written for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Please do not enter children's personal details into myStuff.

Where information is processed

Our providers operate in the United States and other countries. If you visit from outside the United States, your information may be processed in countries whose privacy laws differ from yours.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site changes. The date at the top shows when it last changed, and continued use of the site after a change means you accept the update.
