About this tool

How the PCS Planner works

This planner builds a PCS checklist that fits your move. Answer a few questions or start from a sample list, and the tasks arrive grouped by category and timing. You can add your own tasks and take the list with you as an Excel or PDF file.

What you enter

  • Your status, either a new Foreign Service officer or an experienced one.
  • Whether you're shipping a vehicle and whether you're traveling with pets.
  • Your estimated departure date, so the deadlines can be worked out.
  • Your own tasks, with a description and timing, whenever you want to add one.

What you get

A checklist you can search, filter by category, and tick off. Completed tasks can be hidden or shown. The Excel and PDF exports give you a copy to print or share.

Where it comes from

The timing follows the Standardized Regulations (DSSR) and the annual "It's Your Move" guide. Your answers stay in your browser, so the list is there when you come back on the same device.

What it leaves out

The timing of each task is a general guide. Your orders, your post and your agency set the real requirements, so confirm them with your HR office, your GSO or your travel office.

Common questions

Where is my checklist saved?

In your browser, on the device you used. Export to Excel or PDF if you want a copy somewhere else.

Can I start over?

Yes. The Reset Planner button clears the list so you can set up again.
